Korean parents put so much pressure on their kids

Can you relate?

Korean parents put so much pressure on their own kids. Pressure to succeed. To become professionals like doctors or lawyers. Engineers, business executives.

Why all this pressure?

So many Korean parents (first generation) came to America with very little money. They built their small fortunes running businesses and provided a means for their kids (second generation) to attend top-tier colleges and become successful in life. Many of these parents don't want their kids to suffer and have financial stress driven by uncertainty.

Of course, some parents also want bragging rights. They want to tell their friends that their kids went to Harvard or MIT. They want to tell their friends that their kids are doctors or lawyers. Seems silly, doesn't it?

Education is important, but it shouldn't be a bragging right.
